Austin is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Traffic in Austin peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

It was the local coffee shop within walking distance when we recently stayed in Austin. Pretty great. So we tried the apple danish, salty oat cookie (need the recipe please), blueberry muffin, bran muffin, cinnamon pull apart. All fabulous! Wish weβd stayed longer. They even made us real flat white and cortado coffees that would make Italians sing. Had to try the iced latte with a tiny bit of the homemade vanilla syrup. Awesome! Great service.

Quacks is an essential part of this city. Iβve been coming since I was a kid and still enjoy my visits every bit as much as an adult. Their standard offerings are consistently delicious and the rotation of seasonal treats is always fun. My all time favorites are their shortbread, either decorated with crunchy royal icing or filled with strawberry jam, their cold brew and the ham and cheese croissant. Iβve also used them for custom cakes and cookies for over a decade now and they have delivered something magical every single time. Alice in Wonderland inspired cookies for a birthday party? Slayed. Decorate your own gingerbread kits where the cookies are shaped like genitals for a holiday party at an STI testing company? No problem. Their pies are varied and delicious, their cakes can be topped with a simple frosted message same day. This is their original location and it does get busy on weekends, there is a line out the door during usual breakfast hours. If you donβt have the time to wait I would visit another day. There is also no indoor seating here but Captain Quackenbushes down south has a ton of you want to post up. The negative reviews of the speed/quality of service are from

Quackβs used to be one of the best bakeries in Austin, but since COVID it seems to have gone downhill year after year. What was once a warm, inviting neighborhood cafΓ© where you could sit and enjoy a coffee and pastry now feels cold and unwelcoming after they removed all of the indoor seating. Unfortunately, the customer service hasnβt improved either. The staff often comes across as unfriendly and when I recently called to order a birthday cake and cupcakes for my friends birthday, the employee I spoke with was extremely rude. I decided to take my business elsewhere. The only time I think itβs worth visiting is during the last hour before closing when the pastries are half price. Otherwise, Iβd skip it. Itβs really disappointing because Quackβs is an Austin institution and I hate seeing such a beloved local spot lose what made it so special.

Quack's 43rd Street Bakery is an absolute Austin institution and one of the most charming and delicious bakeries I have ever visited. The baked goods are outstanding with an incredible variety of pastries, cakes, cookies, and breads that are all made fresh with so much care and love. Every single item I have tried has been absolutely wonderful and full of flavor. The cozy and eclectic atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to sit down with a coffee and a treat and enjoy some quiet time. The staff is always warm and welcoming and you immediately feel like a regular from your very first visit. Quack's is a true Austin treasure that I would recommend to absolutely everyone.

The cakes were so good I was halfway through before deciding to take pictures. The chocolate cake was decadent, dark, delicious, but somehow not overly rich. The perfect Matilda cake. Definitely the best I've had in Austin. The key lime pie was also to-die-for. Super tangy, but gorgeously buttery and rich to balance the acidity. The carrot cake slice was good as well, though not on the same level as the other two for me. The frosting was perfect, and the crumb was moist, but I'm not a fan of the shredded carrot bits that were present. That might just be a personal preference. It was still a solid 8.5/10. The others were just 10/10.
